My life with dogs
I can barely write this post this week because little Chance, our deaf Boston Terrier mix, won't make enough room on my lap for the laptop. He will not be denied his proper place or the attention he is craving. So I've got the laptop wedged between the arm of the couch and his head on my left leg and I am as contorted as the new spending bill that just passed in the house. Why do we have to keep giving the rich tax breaks? And why is my lap not my own? Because we allow it.

Mysterious Ways
A friend once told me we are all like spinning balls in the universe. We gravitate, collide, orbit one another for a time and then move on through space. Maybe to fall in each other's orbit again, maybe not. I am enjoying some red wine this evening and I am fondly remembering those whose orbits are on new trajectories. Whatever the circumstance, it really doesn't matter. The important thing is what is left behind - a lesson, a feeling (whether warm or cold) or an idea - these are the forces that shape us. The mystery is in how we will adapt the experiences and lessons learned to help us move forward, if we are indeed evolved enough to allow that to happen...
